Watercolor Paints
Are your handmade watercolors lightfast?
Yes! These watercolors are resistant to fading. But to be extra safe, hang your art out of direct sunlight to ensure its longevity.
Are your colors non-toxic?
We only work with kaolin clays, herbs, cochineal and metals that have low or no known toxicity when used correctly. We do not use manganese, mercury, cadmiums, cobalts, lead, or arsenic pigments.
We do work with cochineal, iron oxide and titanium dioxide which are generally not considered non-toxic, but pose no serious health risks, especially when handled as intended.
Please note that our watercolors are for painting on paper surfaces and not for cosmetic use.
*Paints are not intended for use by children unsupervised.
*Half Pans do pose a choking hazard.
What makes handmade watercolors special?
Aside from the fact that these handmade watercolors are void of any dangerous ingredients, handmade watercolors are unique in several ways.
1. Creamy and richly pigmented
2. They last longer than typical commercial watercolors
3. They are hand mulled/hand filled pans so every brush stroke is inspired by one artist to another.
How do you make your paints?
Without giving away our secret recipe.....
Watercolors are made when a choice of pigment (clay, mineral, ground herb etc.) is combined with a binder; a special glue that allows the watercolors to dry but still be reused when water is added.
The paint is mixed up then transferred to the pans and palettes to dry. Drying time varies depending on pigments and amount of binder used. Cracking in the paint is typical with clays.

Sorry, we don't make custom one-off palettes.

Do you allow reservations or pre-orders?
No, we don't take reservations or pre-orders.
But, newsletter subscribers do get early access, so make sure you're subscribed so you don't miss out!
How often do you re-stock?
Re-stocks happen periodically as we get new products in and when we have time to make more paint.

Yes, that is something that we do. However, since we are a small business, we are limited in the number of businesses we can support.
